When the treasure loaden galleons from the new world left the port in Cartagena and went up to to Cuba and then Florida to take the gulf stream back to Europe they also started to enter the "danger zone" full of hurricanes and pirates - many did not make it...some 800 are still marked as "lost" in the archives many of those registers still available in cartagena and modern spain.
