Catamaran design has dramatically moved towards being floating homes
• Floating Homes need to become an affordable dream for vast population segments.
• We can build a floating home of equivalent size and comfort to the average land home for less than a third of the cost
• To pull this of a paradigm shift in construction technology is necessary

The catamaran with this split of the hull is a bit a pain for putting wide and comfortable living space into the boat. So part of the solution could be to make it bigger (what a technology different to resin fiber technology would allow ) and just start the “home design on top of the hulls” in the “classic layer cake design” the hulls would just be space for tanks and storage. To limit “crawl in situations” to tank and storage areas.
• The form stability of a flat hull like a barge is the same
• Going for a shape like the Why Yacht could be a way
• Trimaran could be a way ( keep the living space without split and work with low displacement outriggers )
Here is a series of pictures how this could look like.
• We should also ask - how fast a floating home needs to sail.
• Can we strip most of those expensive yacht features.
• Can we go for a different Paradigm that does not involve the expensive components and cost drivers like resin composits, yacht marina fees, ferrari finish, etc…
• Can we go for something that is attractive for people who have no “boating affinity” and are not driven by “seamanship” - who want just a normal home with a suitable garage at a affordable price.
• Can we have a wide range of concepts that cover this whole range of preferences
• What about floating homes that blurr the concept of yacht and floating marina as the one shown in this video… the business here could be run a bar or a party spot in the caribbean as a business…
This thing would move around by calling a tugboat, or by warping (kedging), and it would make a ocean crossing (if it should some day become necessary) in the same way as Kon-Tiki did.
